This page is in the process of being created. When completed it will contain information relating to the research carried out on Sabbatical leave by Deputy Principal, Roger Biddle, 2006.
Many schools both within New Zealand and overseas have set up special programmes for students who have an ability or interest in sports of various kinds or in other specific curriculum areas. There are however very few of these which I would call sports academies because they simply offer a modified Physical Education programme within a normal school timetable. They may provide additional coaching opportunities after school hours but do not operate an alternative learning environment with an emphasis on sport.
One of the best examples of a sports academy, operating as an almost autonomous unit is that which operates at St Kentigern College in Auckland. The director, Mr Peter Langsford, is contactable at the college for further information.
