TESTIMONIAL
As the country’s oldest secondary school we are quietly proud that we have produced more recent All Blacks and rugby internationals than any other school in the country…along with numerous high achieving sports women.
Wesley’s All Blacks include Beaver (Stephen Donald) who kicked the winning goal at the last world cup; Jonah Lomu; Charles Piutau – in back up group for 2015 world cup; Malakai Fekitoa – in current team; Nepo Laulala – in back up group for world cup; Augustine Pulu – 2014; Frank Halai – 2014; Sitiveni Sivivatu; Rhys Duggan; Casey Laulala and Doug Rollerson.
Notable current internationals include Uini Atonio (France) and Sekope Kepu (Australia).
Wesley’s 1st XV has won the NZ ‘Top 4’ title a record 5 times – equal with Kelston Boys High School.
And our League 1st XIII has in 2015 year won the Development grade at the NZ schools tournament, beating St Thomas of Christchurch in the final.
Star player Wetere Pompey was selected in the New Zealand schools team. He is also contracted to the Sydney Roosters.
For the past two years the school’s top Sporting award- the Dux Ledorum- has been won by outstanding young women- a first for the school. The first recipient, Katofoekina Veainu, is currently in the Black Ferns wider training squad.
2014 winner – Malia Palusa- is a National age group rep in Basketball and Netball, and has also represented Counties in Rugby.
Apart from sporting achievers, other notable alumni include actor Temuera Morrison, Oscar winner Sir Richard Taylor and former Children’s Commissioner Roger McClay.
