The year 12 Hospitality class embarked on their journey to the annual MIT Cooking Competition. First, was a stop to Urban Soul, where our students got to experience cafe style food and service. Our students tried a range of food, some favourites were; the Steak Sandwich & Chips; the Buttermilk Chicken Waffles; Berry Waffles and of course an assortment of Milkshakes.

Then it was on to the MIT cooking competition. This competition is open to students from secondary school all the way up to tertiary culinary arts.
Students compete in timed cooking events such as:
- The creative smoothie
- Cafe style sandwich and pasta making
- Creative salmon entree & plated dessert (Tertiary students)
A few of the students were even able to taste some of the plated desserts and they were very impressed!

The main event for the secondary students was the baking competition. Here competing students had 90 minutes to bake either a cake, kiwi biscuit or a celebration cake. It is then judged by a panel of guest sponsors. Our students happily participated in the taste testing of the cakes and biscuits. Overall it was very exciting to see what is happening in the hospitality space and we look forward to future opportunities where our students could compete and earn credits at the same time.
