The Wesley Junior futsal team kicked off their 2025 season with a tight game against Pukekohe Christian School at Bruce Pulman Park.
The team got off to a solid start, defending well and keeping the PCS attack away from goal keeper Elijah Erueti. After 8 minutes PCS capitalised on lapse of concentration in the Wesley defence. However, a wonderful piece of skill and finish by Tavo brought the score quickly level. Two more goals by PCS and a further goal by Tinayeishe had the score at 3-2 going into the break.
The second half was extremely competitive with an increase in confidence by both teams leading to end to end play and a delight for the spectators. Solid defending by Siope and Moses and some clever link up play by Tavo and Tinayeishe led to another Wesley goal. A tense final 5 minutes saw PCS run away with a couple of well worked goals leading to a final score of 6-3 to Pukekohe Christian school.
The Wesley team can be proud of their effort and entertaining play. The team look forward to a local derby against St Agnatius on 20th November.
