You shared your Story and Inspired our Future. Congratulations to our winners, and a massive thank you to all students who participated in our Wesley College Writing Competition.

Our Stories, Our Voices, Our Future

The Wesley College Library was proud to host the 2026 Writing Competition, celebrating the creativity, identity, culture and unique voices of our students.

Under the theme “Our Stories, Our Voices, Our Future,” students from Years 9–13 were encouraged to share their ideas and experiences through creative writing. The competition provided an opportunity for students to celebrate their culture, reflect on their journeys, honour those who inspire them, and imagine a positive future for themselves, their whānau and their communities.

Students could choose from a range of prompts, including writing about a person from their culture who inspires them, the meaning of whānau/aiga/famili, a journey that changed them, hopes for the future of their community, stories inspired by their ancestors, or a creative piece based on the overall competition theme.

The competition showcased the incredible talent and diversity of our Wesley College students. Their writing demonstrated imagination, courage and a willingness to share stories that are meaningful to them.  Winners were presented with a Whitcoulls Voucher and certificate in chapel by the Head of the English Department, Ms Natalie Faitala. Kairangi points were also awarded and a morning tea celebration is to be held in the library on Monday 14 September (photos to follow). The Judge also gave all students who entered positive feedback on their individual writing pieces.
