Last weekend, we held our inaugural Wesley Old Students Golf Classic, bringing together alumni from across the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s for an unforgettable day of connection and celebration. 

The event began with a moving mihi whakatau in front of the old chapel. This opening provided a meaningful moment to remember those who have left us and honour the shared journey of all Wesley alumni. Principal Dr. Brian Evans addressed the gathering, expressing his immense pride in both the impressive turnout and the spirit of the event. 

Following the welcome, alumni embarked on a nostalgia-filled historical tour of the school. The walk down memory lane included stops at the old 1st XV shed, old Denton, the old gymnasium, Caughey Hall, and the old TV lounge, before wrapping up at Harding Hall. At every stop, former students shared stories, relived old memories, and enjoyed plenty of laughs. 

After swapping stories, everyone gathered outside the dining room to change into their golf polos and pose for group photos. Alumni then organised into their respective houses and headed off to the golf course.

We played 18 holes, it was great to see everyone stay right through to the end for the presentations. There were some serious golfers in the group, which made for a very competitive day, along with plenty of friendly banter throughout. Our Inaugural Golf Classic winners were School/Stanton. Due to numbers, the two houses combined, with three players representing each house, and they managed to come away with the win.

Overall, the day was a fantastic success—a perfect blend of honouring the past, celebrating the Wesley brotherhood, and building new memories. Thank you to everyone who supported the event and made the effort to journey back to Wesley.
