Gateway Trip

On Thursday 10th March some Year 12 and 13 students interested in engineering construction e.g. roading design, earthworks, surveying and drain laying etc. visited the Paerata Rise site and spent the morning with Dines Civil Engineering looking at the range of opportunities available in this area. 

Students got to see the big machinery at work and see first hand how a working site operates. 

Students had a lot of questions including how long it takes to develop an area such as Paerata Rise, how long it takes to build your career to become the boss 😊 and of course the question of money. There were also questions on overseas opportunities and how to develop your own company to contract your services when you get skilled on machinery.

The students enjoyed themselves and got a lot out of the opportunity and it gave them an insight into other work opportunities out there.
