You will be aware there are several more confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the community in Auckland.

As a result New Zealand is now at Alert level 4. Auckland and the Coromandel can expect to be at alert level 4 for seven days. The Alert Level 4 setting for the rest of NZ will be reviewed at 72 hours.

I realise that some of our students may have headed home without their devices. Because of the importance of the first 48 hours in tracing this virus, at this stage there is no exemption process to allow for devices to be delivered or picked up, or any other approved arrangement. The Ministry of Education will continue to review this and if this changes we will let you know.

Mr Wood, our Deputy Principal will be sending out a detailed learning plan for all students this morning. In the interim Reading Plus for all Juniors is an excellent option to start with. Many Seniors will already have learning and assessments to continue with and complete.

Also, take the opportunity to discuss your son/daughter’s attendance.

Teaching staff recently completed a robust audit of attendance for every student in the school. We used a ‘tier’ system so students could clearly see how good their attendance was, or, if it need some improvement.

Learning Coaches are working on this system:

  • Tier 1:  Prevention (90 – 100% attendance) – congratulate/celebrate with students
  • Tier 2:  Early Intervention  (80 – 89%) – check and connect with student and home, identify any issues you can solve, goal set
  • Tier 3:  Specialised, targeted actions (Below 80%) – discuss with Dean/SLT

Please ask your children where their attendance lies and what (if any) improvement is required. If they are unsure contact their Learning Coach for the information.

While the resurgence of COVID-19 is the last news anyone wanted, it is unfortunately what was anticipated. This extremely short and sharp shift in Alert Level settings will support us prevent widespread infection in the community.

We all know what we need to do to help keep our communities as safe as possible.

We will continue to update you as this response progresses, so as always, please do let us know if there is any information you need to support you and your children’s learning.

Kia kaha!
